Despite the heavy pouring of rain, the celebration of “Buwan ng Wika and Kasaysayan” proceeded this week, August 30, 2024, with undeterred and stunning performances of the students.
The annual celebration of a month-long commemoration of the importance and value of the native language of Filipinos kicked off this month, with the theme “Filipino: Wikang Mapagpalaya.” The event encouraged students to relive the past by wearing the traditional clothing of different ethnic groups in the country, paired with various activities that showed their creativity and wit.
A series of events regarding the month-long celebration of the national language were conducted. The events comprised of three different activities, starting with Color Me Best, Slogan Making, and Sabayang Pagbasa. The event started at 2:00 in the afternoon. Elementary students were in their designated rooms with their designated facilitators. The first part of the program took place inside the classrooms; pupils from prekindergarten to third grade were given a coloring activity sheet. While students from fourth grade to sixth grade were instructed to compose a slogan based on the theme of this month’s celebration.
As the second part of the event draws near, a heavy rain started to pour down, causing a delay. Regardless, the event proceeded anyway at the open-air auditorium of the Saint Francis of Assisi College—Southwoods Campus, proving the value of enthusiasm and the unstoppable spirit of the Franciscan community. The “Sabayang Pagbasa” set off with an energetic and dramatic performance of performers from grades eleven and twelve. Followed by another amazing and surprising presentation of combined students from grades seven, eight, and nine. And lastly, students from tenth grade end the event with an astonishing and phenomenal performance, making them the declared winner for “Sabayang Pagbasa 2024.”
