Saint Francis of Assisi College – Southwoods observed Nutrition Month with the theme “Kumain ng Wasto at Maging Aktibo…Push Natin ‘to!” (Eat Healthy and do physical activity…let’s push this!) last Friday, July 19, 2019, showcasing the Franciscan’s talents. Everyone was enjoined to advocate the importance of healthy diets, increased physical activity and reduced sedentary behavior. The program ended with a dance exercise by the Performing Arts Club in response to the call of increasing physicial activities and reducing a sedentary lifestyle of individuals and families. The Elementary and High School Department actively joined in the different activities/contests like Color Me Best, Slogan and Poster Making and the Nutri Quiz Bee.
The most awaited part of the celebration of Nutrition Month was the Cooking Fest for every level. Last July 17, the kinder pupils presented their versions of the vegetable salad while the pre-kinder pupils presented their interpretations of different sandwiches. Last July 10, the Intermediate level and High School participated in the cook-off challenge using banana buds (puso ng saging) and papaya as main ingredients. The high school level chose regions in Luzon and patterned their own concoctions after the region’s famous main dishes, appetizers, desserts and drinks.
At the close of the cook fest the following Friday, July 20, the results of the winners were announced. The winners for the Intermediate level, first place went to the Grade 4 pupils; second place was won by Grade 5; and third was given to Grade 5 pupils. For the high school levels, the Daltonians (Grade 9) won first place; second place was awarded to the senior high students; and Grade 8 – Aristotle won third place. (hanging?)The Franciscans accepted the places they got on the cook fest. It shows the sportsmanship of the students even they didn’t get the places they wanted to be for that cook fest.
The Nutrition Month is not about who is the best among the best but how the students doing the physical activities and actively participated in the different challenges to avoid the sedentary lifestyle.
