(President's message during the Capping, Pinning and Candlelighting ceremonies of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Batches 2012 and 2013.)

We . . . the officers, administrators, faculty member, nursing students, dear parents and friends . . . are all here to celebrate a time-honored nursing school tradition – the Capping, Pinning and Candlelighting ceremonies of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Batches 2012 and 2013.

This tradition is a rite of passage recognizing student efforts in a baccalaureate nursing program and affirming their commitment to the nursing profession. Today's experience, likewise, reflects the challenges braved by Saint Francis of Assisi College – its institution’s leaders and nurse educators - to bring these nursing students to where they are at right now.

With great passion and devotion, SFAC has equipped you and prepared you, dear nursing students, for an ‘infinite voyage of committed caring’. Like sailors who will sail for the first time, SFAC has armed you with navigational instruments like a compass to know your direction. And the navigational instruments are your SKA: the Skills, Knowledge and Attitude that you carry with you in caring for your patients. Bear in mind that you are a gift to a wounded world. And, amid an everchanging health care environment, approach your caring with the Franciscan virtues of humility, abiding faith in God, and humaneness. Carry out your ministry of compassion with spiritual gentleness intertwined with the core values of the nursing profession.

May God's steadfast love guide you, dear students, and give you the strength to carry on. May our benevolent and merciful God open the floodgates of more graces and abundant blessings upon you, dear parents and guardians, to see your children and wards achieve their dreams of becoming nurses.

Thank you and good evening, once again!
